Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Kinimos is a mobile application designed to help you stay close to the people who matter most in your life. This privacy policy explains how we handle your information when you use the Kinimos app and when you interact with our website.

2. Data we collect in the app

All information you enter into Kinimos — contact names, relationship notes, events, and preferences — is stored locally on your device. We do not operate any servers that store your app data.

With your permission, Kinimos also reads data from your device's Contacts and Calendar apps to deliver its core features. This data is used entirely on-device — it is never transmitted to us, logged, or stored outside of your device, except as described in Section 6.

3. Waitlist and email communications

If you choose to sign up on our website to be notified when Kinimos launches, we collect your email address. This is the only personal data we hold about you as a visitor to our website.

• What we collect: your email address only
• Why: to send you a single launch announcement email
• Legal basis (GDPR): your explicit consent, given when you submit the form and confirmed via the double opt-in email sent by our email platform. You may withdraw this consent at any time.
• Data processor: we use Kit (formerly ConvertKit), a US-based email platform, to manage the waitlist and send the notification. You can review their privacy policy at kit.com/privacy.
• Retention: waitlist email addresses will be deleted once the launch announcement has been sent, or sooner on request.

Completely separate from the app. Your email address is held entirely separately from the Kinimos app. Because the app stores all data locally on your device with no account system, we have no way to connect your waitlist signup to any usage of the app — and we have no interest in doing so. Your email is used solely to notify you at launch, nothing more.

To be removed from the waitlist at any time, reply to any email we send or contact us at hello@kinimos.app. We will remove you within 5 business days.

4. Device permissions

Kinimos requests the following permissions solely to deliver its functionality. In each case, the data accessed remains on your device and is never sent to us or any third party.

• Contacts (iOS & Android) — to import contact names, photos, birthdays, important dates, and relationships. Includes access to contact notes on iOS.
• Calendar (iOS & Android) — to read existing events and create, update, or delete events on your device calendar.
• Notifications — to deliver local nudges and reminders entirely on-device. No device token is ever sent to our servers.

All permissions can be revoked at any time in your device settings.

5. Data we do not collect

To be explicit, Kinimos does not collect:

• Advertising IDs
• Precise location
• Photos, microphone, or audio data
• Health data
• Payment data

The app has no account system and no ability to identify you within the app itself. The only personal data we hold is your email address if you have signed up to our launch waitlist — see Section 3.

6. Third-party services

The only data that ever leaves your device from the app is a search string you type when looking up a location while creating an event. This is sent to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service to return matching place names. No contact data, personal identifiers, or device IDs are attached to this request. Apart from this single function, no data from the app is ever transmitted off your device.

For the launch waitlist, we use Kit (formerly ConvertKit) as our email platform. Your email address is shared with Kit solely for the purpose of sending the launch notification. Kit is a US-based service — see Section 3 for details and a link to their privacy policy.

If you download Kinimos from the App Store or Google Play, Apple and Google's own privacy policies apply to that transaction. We encourage you to review their policies separately.

7. Notifications

Kinimos may request permission to send you local notifications (nudges and reminders). These notifications are generated entirely on your device. On Android, the app uses scheduled exact alarms to ensure reliable delivery. We do not use push notification infrastructure, and your device token is never sent to our servers.

8. Data deletion

Because all app data is stored locally on your device, you can delete all Kinimos app data at any time simply by uninstalling the app.

If you have signed up to our launch waitlist, you can request removal at any time by replying to any email we send or by contacting us at hello@kinimos.app. We will remove your email address within 5 business days.

9. Your rights

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom, you have the following rights in relation to any personal data we hold about you (currently limited to your email address if you have joined the waitlist):

• Right of access — to request a copy of the data we hold about you
• Right to rectification — to ask us to correct inaccurate data
• Right to erasure — to ask us to delete your data
• Right to restriction — to ask us to pause processing your data
• Right to data portability — to receive your data in a portable format
• Right to object — to object to processing based on legitimate interests
• Right to withdraw consent — where processing is based on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. This does not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.

10. Children's privacy

Kinimos is rated 17+ on the Apple App Store and carries a Mature content rating on Google Play. The app is intended for users aged 17 and over. If you are under 17, please do not use Kinimos. We do not knowingly permit users under the age of 17 to use the app, and if we become aware that a user is under 17, we would encourage them to discontinue use. As the app does not operate any servers or user accounts, we have no means of collecting or retaining personal data from any user regardless of age.

11. Changes to this policy

If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. We will notify users of any material changes through the app itself.
